Scranton, PA - Misericordia University held off a Marywood rally to earn a 10-9 win in the opening game and then used a rally of their own to win the nightcap, 11-5, as the Cougars swept a non-conference softball twinbill from the Pacers Saturday afternoon in Scranton.  Misericordia improved to 5-7 with the wins while the Pacers slipped to 4-10.

In the opener, the Cougars built an early 9-2 lead but a five-run fifth got the Pacers back into the game.  Misericordia would get a much needed insurance run in the top of the seventh to go up 10-7.  The Pacers' rally came up short in the bottom half of the frame as they could only plate two runs and left the tying runner stranded on third to end the game.

Caitlin Cromley got the win on the mound for Misericordia.  Cromley went 6.1 innings, starting and finishing the game.  Had it been allowed by NCAA statistical rules, Cromley would have earned the save on her own win.  Cromley was replaced in the fifth by Mindy LaBarre, and after a five-run inning from Marywood had to re-enter to shut the Pacers down to get the win.

Kaitlyn Jones took the loss for Marywood after allowing eight earned runs on 14 hits.  Meghin Palmer went 3-for-5 for Marywood while Kim Lope, Kayla Prompovitch, Diana Butash and Chelsea Zimmerman all had two hits.  Taresa Dongilli had three RBI to lead the Pacers.

Mallory Getts went 2-for-4 with four runs scored for Misericordia, while Cromley helped her own cause witha  3-for-4 performace at the plate.

In the nightcap, Marywood went up 3-1 early behind a strong pitching performance from Katherine King, but the Pacers let their hurler down by allowing the Cougars to score nine runs, seven of which were unearned, in the top of the sixth.

Jess Armilly got the win for the Cougars after allwoing three earned runs over five innings of work.  Cromley also pitched two more innings in the nightcap, allowing just one hit to shut down the Pacers.

King took the loss after striking out four and allowing eleven runs (four earned) on thirteen Misericordia hits.  Palmer had another three-hit performance in the nightcap as she went 3-for-4.  Kellsie Davis was 2-for-4 with two RBI and Runco added a pair of RBI as well.

Marywood returns to action next Saturday when they travel to Aston to take on Neumann University in a CSAC twinbill starting at noon.
