Softball Keeps Win Streak Going, Sweeps Cabrini

Scranton, PA - Marywood University's softball team swept visiting Cabrini College by scores of 6-1 and 9-2 Saturday afternoon to extend their winning streak to nine games and improve to 13-1 in Colonial States Athletic Conference action.  The Pacers, now 15-11 overall, got a huge day from senior Kim Lope who went 5-for-8 (.625) with a double, two triples and 10 total bases in the wins.

In the opening game, Marywood got out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first after Mariah Runco singled in Meghin Palmer for the game's first run.  Cabrini knotted the game at 1-1 on a solo homer from Stephanie Diegel in the top of the second, but Marywood scored twice in the third and three times in the fifth to put the game out of reach.  Jillian Flanagan was the only Pacer to get an extra base hit as she hit a two-run triple in the fifth. 

Cabrini loaded the bases twice, but could not do more damage to Marywood pitcher Alexandra Stine, who improved to 5-3 on the year with a complete-game win.  Stine struck out two while scattering seven hits and allowing just the one run for the win.

Marywood's bats remained hot in the second game, as the Pacers pounded out 14 hits and scored all their runs in the first thee innings en route toa  9-2 win.  Solid pitching from Katherine King (5-3) limited the Cavaliers' chances, as King went the distance and allowed two runs on five hits while fanning five batters.

Lope was 3-for-4 in the nightcap with a pair of triples, a double and three runs scored.  Kayla Pompovitch also had a strong game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.  Stine was 3-for-3 at the lpate with a pair of RBI, while Meghin Palmer also had two RBI in a 2-for-4 effort.

Prior to the game, Marywood honored it's four seniors in Lope, Dommes, Flanagan and Melissa Brodt.  The Pacers return to action next Friday when they host Centenary College in a doubleheader that could determine the CSAC's top seed in the upcoming postseason playoffs.  Game one starts at 3:00pm.
