Scranton, PA - Marywood University battled hard but eventually fell to local rival Misericordia University 5-2 in non-conference women's tennis action Tuesday afternoon in Scranton.  The Cougars, who swept doubles play and won three of five singles matches, improve to 6-1 on the year while Marywood sees their record slip to 11-7.  The Pacers will close out the spring portion of their season next Thursday, April 26, with a trip to nearby Wilkes University.

Emily Boro and Cassie Foy teamed up for a close win at two-doubles play for the Cougars, a hard-fought 8-6 victory over Marywood's Kara Hoff and Megan Nastelli.  Michelle Cameron and Breanne Phillips had a much easier time at one-doubles, handing Marywood's Melissa Hudock and Carly Leitzel an 8-1 setback.

In singles play, Cameron downed Hoff in the top singles flight 6-2, 6-0, but Marywood's Leitzel responded with a three-set win to give the Pacers a point.  Leitzel won 6-0, 1-6, 10-8 over Boro.  Foy downed Nastelli 6-4, 6-3 at three-singles, and Marywood's Melissa Hudock was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Emily Hunnings at four singles.  In five singles, Emily Gherghel beat Marywood's Elspeth Peterson 6-2, 6-0.

The match was played to seven points rather than the normal nine because the Pacers were short-handed.  Misericordia did not accept to points they could have claimed at six singles and three doubles due to forfeits.
