Gwynedd Valley, PA - For the first time in the 18-year history of Marywood University's baseball program, the Pacers are headed to the postseason.  Marywood University improved to 22-16 on the year but more importantly to 9-9 in Colonial States Athletic Conference action after splitting action with host Gwynedd-Mercy College Saturday afternoon.  Marywood won the opener 4-0 behind the arms of Tim Freda and Ryan Pelle but dropped the nightcap 11-5.  Marywood will enter the CSAC playoffs as the #4 seed and take on top-seeded Keystone College Friday afternoon in Boyertown.

In the opener, Freda got the win after going four full innings and allowing just three hits.  Pelle picked up a three-inning save by striking out four and not allowing a hit.  After a scoreless two innings to start the game, Marywood got on the board with a two-run third inning thanks to an unearned run on a throwing error followed by a Dominic Loughlin RBI single.  In the top of the seventh the Pacers tacked on two insurance runs on a pair of squeeze bunts from Mike Diskin and Jonathan Woytach, both of which reached safely and picked up RBIs.

Knowing the pressure to reach the postseason for  the first time in program history was now off, Marywood could not come away with the sweep as GMC rallied for a 11-5 win the final game of the series.  The Griffins jumped all over Pacers' starter Michael Ciavarella, scoring 10 runs on 13 hits over 4.2 innings.  Ciavarella, however, only allowed four earned runs and Marwood committed a season high eight errors behind him as the Griffins cruised to the win.  Shane Miller and Diskin were both 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Marywood in game two.

Marywood and Keystone will square off at 2:00pm at Bear Stadium in Boyertown.  The Pacers are the only blemish on Keystone College's CSAC slate as the Pacers down the Giants 4-3 on March 30th in LaPlume.
