Marywood and Immaculata Men's Lacrosse Teams Participating in "Play For Hayley" Wednesday

Men's Lacrosse - 4/3/2012 2:32:00 PM

Immaculata, PA - When the Immaculata University men's lacrosse team hosts Marywood University on Wednesday, April 4, at 4 p.m. at Draper Walsh Stadium, the two teams will “Play For Hayley”. The Mighty Macs' and Pacers' men's lacrosse teams are hoping to raise money for the family of Hayley Tuscai, who was injured in a car accident during the summer of 2011.

Hayley is the sister of former Marywood men's lacrosse player and current volunteer assistant coach Anthony Tuscai while brothers Ben and Dante Tuscai play for Immaculata's men's lacrosse program.

On June 15, 2011, Hayley was injured in a car accident in Michigan. During the accident, she suffered a broken neck with spinal cord damage that has left her temporarily confined to a wheelchair. Doctors estimate that spinal cord injuries take two or more years to heal, and the prognosis for Hayley's full recovery is uncertain at this time.

During the nine months since the accident, Hayley has spent six of those months in different hospitals taking part in rehabilitation therapy and recovering from complications from the accident. When she was finally able to move back home, Hayley had both physical and occupational therapists working with her daily. However, the Tuscai's home lacks the proper equipment and space that Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital offered Hayley while she was an in-patient.

The equipment to help Hayley with her therapy at home is very expensive. Hayley would like to purchase a glider standing frame with costs approximately ranging from $6,000-$7,000. This piece of equipment completely supports Hayley up to a standing position, allowing her to bear weight on her legs for longer periods of time while exercising her upper body and stretching the muscles in her lower body at the same time. Weight-bearing exercises are important in preserving bone density.

Both Immaculata's and Marywood's men's lacrosse squads hope that fans attending Wednesday's contest will join them in their support for the Tuscai family and make a donation as they enter the game, so that Hayley will be able to continue her therapy and recovery.
