Keystone Defeats Marywood in First Game of CSAC Tournament

Boyertown, PA – Top-seeded Keystone College beat fourth-seeded Marywood University 10-4  in Game 1 of the Colonial States Athletic Conference baseball championship tournament on Friday afternoon at Bear Stadium.  The Giants, currently ranked third in the country, improve to 33-5 on the season with the win while the Pacers, who were making their CSAC playoff debut, fall to 22-17 heading into the elimination round of the tournament.
 
Keystone built a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, getting a two-run double from Brian Del Rosso followed by an RBI single from Esteban Meletiche.  The Giants stretched their lead to 6-0 with single runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings.
 
Marywood would get on the board in the top half of the seventh inning.  Dan Downton led off the frame with a walk then advanced to second when Chris Ortiz was hat by a pitch.  Following a balk that advanced the runners, Cato Bauer was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs.  Mike Pinelli hit a sacrifice fly to score Downton, but that was the only run the Pacers could score in the frame.
 
After escaping the jam, the Giants tacked on four runs in the home half of the eighth inning to stretch their lead to 10-1.  With the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth inning, Dominic Loughlin laced a three-run double to right center, but Keystone recorded the final out of the game on a fly out by the Pacers' next batter.
 
Andrew Eggleston improve to 6-0 on the mound for Keystone after going eight innings and allowing one run on five hits while striking out five.  Meletiche, Austin Straub, and Miguel Castano had two hits apiece for the Giants while Castano and Del Rosso both drove in a pair of runs.
 
Loughlin's three RBIs were a game-high for Marywood while Nicholas Pasqualichio and Shane Miller recorded two hits apiece for the Pacers.  Starting pitcher Nicholas DeFebo struck out three batters while allowing five hits in four innings of work.  Jason Aikens also allowing five hits while striking out one batter in 3.1 innings on the hill for Marywood while Joseph DiLoreto gave up two hits before getting the final two outs for the Pacers.
 
Marywood will take on third-seed Gwynedd-Mercy, who lost 5-0 to second-seeded Neumann University on Friday, at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday in an elimination game.
