Malatesta, DeSales Keep Marywood Winless

Scranton, PA - DeSales University's Alison Malatesta scored two goals and teammate Meryah Harding had a goal and two assists as the visiting Bulldogs kept Marywood winless on the year with a 5-0 win over the Pacers in non-conference field hockey action Thursday afternoon in Scranton.  Marywood fell to 0-3 on the year while DeSales improved to 3-2.

Malatesta opened the scoring 11:29 into the contest when she scored off a Harding feed.  added her own goal just over 10 minutes later as the visitors built a 2-0 lead.  Two minutes later, Malatesta finished another pass from Harding to make it 3-0.

Nearly eight minutes into the second half, the Bulldogs went up 4-0 when Amber Collins scored on a penalty stroke.  Alessandra Farnesi finished the scoring for DeSales in the 48th minute of play when she scored on a Sara Barker assist.

DeSales out-shot Marywood 20-11 for the day and placed 16 shots on goal to Marywood's five.  The visitors also had a 10-8 advantage in penalty corners.  Sarah Hindman and Julie Kowalski each had two shots on goal for the Pacers.

Natalie Winters played 47:45 in goal for Marywood, making 11 stops and allowing all five DeSales goals.  Erin Dawson played the final 22:15 for Marywood and did not see a shot.  Victoria DelToro got the win for DeSales after 41:09 of action, making one stop.  DelToro combined with Becky Rasmuson (28:51, 4 saves) for the clean slate.

Marywood returns to action Saturday when they open CSAC play at Notre Dame of Maryland University just outside Baltimore. Game time is set for 1pm.
