Stevens’ Hat-trick Leads to Marywood Win over ND

Baltimore, MD – Marywood University gave Head Field Hockey Coach Lindsey Hendricks her first collegiate coaching win as the visiting Pacers downed host Notre Dame of Maryland University 5-0 to open Colonial States Athletic Conference play.  Marywood got three goals from Amber Stevens en route to their first win of 2012 as the Pacers improved to 1-4 on the year overall.  The Gators remained winless with the loss and now stand at 0-5 (0-1 CSAC).

Marywood, who out-shot the Gators 29-2 on the day, got their first goal from Amber Stevens just over three minutes into the contest as Stevens finished a Kathryn Morin pass for the game's first goal.  Stevens doubled the Marywood lead in the 20th minute of play off a feed from Molly Westbrook, then completed her hat-trick just under a minute later with a goal off a Carly Bergstrom assist. 

The Pacers made it 4-0 with five minutes remaining in the opening half as Julie Kowalski found Morin for a goal, then 21 minutes into the second half the Pacers closed out the scoring for the day when Kowalski found Ashley Logar for the game's final goal.

Natalie Winters (no saves) and Erin Dawson (one save) shared the shutout for Marywood while Notre Dame's Emily Langton made a game-high 16 stops.  Marywood returns to action Tuesday when they host Neumann University in CSAC action at 4:00pm.
