Marywood Routs Rosemont in CSAC Opener

Rosemont, PA – After just over twenty minutes of scoreless action visiting Marywood University scored two first half goals and added five more in the second frame as the Pacers opened their 2012 CSAC schedule with a 7-0 win over host Rosemont College.  Marywood 's Emily Osborne made four saves for the shutout win while Lauren Eck had two goals and Jessica Cosentino had a goal and two assists.  Marywood improved to 1-4 (1-0 CSAC) on the year while Rosemont fell to 2-2 (0-1 CSAC).

The first 22 minutes of playwere dominated by Marywood but the Pacers were held off the board by Raven's keeper Andrea Dossantos who made two great saves early on to keep the game scoreless.  In the 23rd minute, Marywood broke through as Alixandria Fiore scored off a corner kick to put the Pacers up 1-0.  Jessica Cosentino redirected Angela Heydt's corner kick just in side the penalty spot and Fiore touched it to the far post for her second goal of the season.

Despite out-shooting the host s the remainder of the half, Marywood would not get on the board again until there was just two seconds left in the period.  Emma Nye collected a long through ball from Lauren Eck and calmly deposited it past Dossantos for a 2-0 Marywood lead.  Dossantos made a great effort on the breakaway but hurt her hand in the process and was removed from the game.

Marywood opened second half scoring in the 57th minute when Nye's long-range attempt deflected off a Rosemont defender for an own goal to put Marywood up 3-0.  Eck would then score her first collegiate goal in the 65th minute as she used the outside of her left foot to redirect a Siobhan Blancaflor cross, bending the ball past Rosemont goalkeeper Gina Donnelly.  Cosentino scored her second goal of the year in the 67th minute when she drilled home an attempted clear from 15 yards out. 

Kimberly Vogan then scored her first collegiate goal in the 78thminute when she rocketed home a Cosentino pass from just outside the 18 yard box.  Eck closed the scoring in the 81st minute with an unassisted tally, beating Donnelly from 15 yards out.

Osborne made four saves on the day to preserve the win.  Marywood enjoyed a 21-10 advantage in shots and had 10 corner kicks to Rosemont's three.  The Pacers will return to action Wednesday evening when they host the University of Scranton in non-conference action at 7:00pm.
