Marywood Earns 3-2 Win Over NJCU

Scranton, PA – Zachary Oster, Christian Lawlor, and Daniel Hull all scored second half goals to help Marywood University overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit to New Jersey City University on Saturday as the Pacers earned a 3-2 win over the Gothic Knights. Lawlor also broke Marywood's record for points in a career as Marywood snapped a three-game losing skid to improve to 3-4-1 heading into Wednesday afternoon's Colonial States Athletic Conference opener at Immaculata.
 
The Gothic Knights opened the scoring in the 13th minute of Saturday's game when Manny Martis beat a pair of Marywood defenders and scored from a hard angle to the far post past Pacer goalkeeper Austin Wright.  NJCU held the 1-0 advantage at halftime despite being outshot 9-6 by Marywood in the first half.
 
The Pacers equalized by taking advantage of a set piece from just outside the edge of NJCU's penalty box 5:34 into the second half.  Jamie Mangini ripped a ball across the box that Oster redirected into the back of the net for the first goal of his collegiate career.
 
Marywood took a 2-1 lead just over 10 minutes later when Hall played a thru ball to Lawlor that the junior forward collected and dribbled past NJCU's goalkeeper before depositing the ball into the back of the net.
 
With momentum clearly in the Pacers' favor, Mother Nature intervened in the 69th minute of play as storm cell passing through the area caused the game to be delayed for nearly 30 minutes.  The Gothic Knights wasted little time knotting up the game when play resumed as Eduardo Tejada headed in a long throw-in from Alec Metsch at the 70:23 mark.
 
The Pacers needed just 16 seconds to retake the lead as Lawlor fed a ball to Hull that the freshman forward drilled home for his second goal of the season and the contests eventual game-winner to give Marywood a 3-2 lead.  Lawlor's assist lifted his career total to 61 points, breaking the school record formerly be held by Brett Megee.

NJCU pressured late looking to force overtime, but the Pacers backline and Wright held first to help Marywood snap their three-game losing skid.
 
Wright finished the afternoon with two saves to pick up his second win of the season while NJCU's Sheldon Parkinson made seven saves for the game.
 
The Pacers held a 19-14 advantage in shots for the game while the Gothic Knights held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks on the day.
 
Marywood opens the Colonial States Athletic Conference portion of their schedule on Wednesday on the road at Immaculata University.  Opening kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Immaculata, PA.
