Marywood Falls to Scranton in Women's Tennis

Scranton, PA - The University of Scranton won two of three doubles matches and four of six singles matches to open their 2012-13 season with a win over host Marywood University in non-conference women's tennis action Sunday afternoon on the campus of Marywood University.  The Pacers, whose only two defeats are in non-league play, fall to 6-2 overall on the year.

Marywood won the #1 doubles match as Kara Hoff and Megan Nastelli earned a 8-5 win over Devon Cohen and Emily Walsh. The Royals responded with an 8-5 win of their own at #2 doubles, then took a 2-1 lead heading into singles play with an 8-6 win from the duo of Lisa-Marie Lanciotti and Lindsay Ward at #3 doubles.

In singles action, Scranton's Megan Azzalina bested Hoff 6-3, 6-4 in the top singles flight while Walsh had little trouble with Melissa Hudock in a 6-1, 6-1 win at #2 singles.  Nastelli got Marywood a point with a 6-4, 6-1 win at #3 singles, but Cohen kept the Royals out front with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Emily Hoskins at #4 singles.  At #5 singles Lanciotti defeated Kristen Lambert in three sets while Marywood's Lauren Fersch picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win at #6 singles.

Marywood returns to the courts this Friday as the Pacers take on King's College in a non-conference match at 3:00 pm at Kirby Park in Edwardsville.
