Volleyball Splits on First Night of Scranton Invitational

Scranton, PA – Marywood University split a pair of matches on Friday evening on the first day of the Scranton Invitational hosted by the University of Scranton.  After falling in three games to the host Royals, the Pacers responded with a 3-0 decision over Keystone College to push their record to 4-1 on the year.
 
In Friday's opener against Scranton, the Royals took a tight first set, 25-23, before winning games two and three by scored of 25-15 and 25-17, respectively, to remain unbeaten on the year at 6-0.
 
Ashley Zalewski paced Marywood's attack in the first loss of the season with seven kills on a .429 hitting percentage.  Sara Melick added four kills while Kelly Chadwick dished out 15 assists to lead the Pacers. 
 
Marywood's Rachel Tollett contributed a team-best 15 digs and Ashley Cavellier added eight digs of her own against Scranton, who was led by Julia Crilly's 17 kills and 16 assists apiece from Juli Woods and Emily Keim.
 
The Pacers cruised past Keystone in the nightcap with wins of 25-11, 25-18, and 25-12 to claim a split for the day. 
 
Cavellier recorded a team-leading eight kills in the win over the Giants on 15 attacks and also tied for the team-best with 12 digs. Kathleen Reilly drove down six kills on 12 attempts while Zalewski contributed five kills on eight attacks.
 
Chadwick again led the Pacers with 27 assists while collecting six digs and Tollett tied for the team-high with 12 digs in the win.


Marywood opens the second day of the Scranton Invitational on Saturday against the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford at 1:00 p.m. before closing out the tournament against Wilkes University at 3:00 p.m.
