Swimming Downs Goucher for Landmark Conference Wins

Towson, MD - Marywood University's men's and women's swimming teams both came away with Landmark Conference victories as the Pacers downed Goucher College Saturday afternoon in Towson.  The Pacers' men's squad pulled out a 143-118 win to improve to 4-8 overall and 2-4 in Landmark action while the women cruised to a 172-76 win, sending them above .500 in Conference meets (4-3) and to a 5-8 overall mark.

The Pacers' 200 yard medley relay women's team of Olivia Hower, Kim Petersen, Amber Sharkey and Kayleigh Velott got Marywood off to a strong start with a win in a time of 2:01.67.  The Marywood men's 200 medley relay team followed suit as Michael Stauffer, Chris Brown, Ryan Widenor and Daniel Adams teammed for a winning time of 1:42.77.

Marywood won the 1000 free in both the men's and women's race as well as Katie Paterson won the women's in 11:15.26 and Jason Beabout won the men's in 10:36.46.  Velott won the 200 free in 2:08.55 before Goucher's Morgan Richter broke up the Marywood win streak with a victory in the 200 free with a time of 1:49.90. Beabout came in second in that event in 1:50.21 and Zachary Haney finished third with a 1:51.43.

In the 100 backstroke, Hower won with a time of 1:09.76 for the women while Petersen won the women's 100 breast in 1:13.75.  Brown took the men's 100 breaststroke in 1:05.11 while Sharkey won the women's 200 fly in 2:27.89.  Kara Hoff won the women's 50 free in 27.10, edging teammate Valarie Barlow who finished second with a 27.29.

In the men's 50 free, Adams came away with the win, touching in 22.52.  Adams then won the 100 free as well, finishing with a time of 50.59. 

Velott picked up a win in the 200 backstroke (2:27.24) for the women and Cara Cassandro finished first for Marywood int eh 200 breaststorke with a time of 2:58.53.  In the 500 free, Paterson won in a time of 5:30.20 while Hower finished second in 5:59.72.  Beabout also won the men's 500 in 5:04.62, touching just ahead of Morgan Richter from Goucher who finished in 5:07.40. 

Sharkey won the women's 100 fly in 1:07.25 and Blevins followed suit in the men's race, winning with a time of 55.74.  Marywood's women's 200 free relay team of Petersen, Hoff, Barlow and Paterson won in 1:46.77 to close out the meet.

The Pacers return to action with their final regular season meet on January 24 when they host Cazenovia College in non-conference action.  Marywood will then host the Landmark Conference Swimming & Diving Championships February 8-10, 2013.
