Women's Basketball Tops Keystone to Remain Undefeated in CSAC

Scranton, PA - Five Marywood University players reached double figures as the Pacers defeated Keystone College, 79-72, to remain undefeated against conference foes. The Pacers extend their record to 7-5 overall and 4-0 in the CSAC. The Pacers were led by Brittany Mang and Morgann Haduck, who both scored 14 points. 


Maggie Presnal contributed 12 points, and both Nora Joyce and Danielle Terranella tallied 11. The Pacers finished the game shooting 41.7 percent from the floor, 35.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 68.6 percent from the free throw line.

Alexa Gerchman produced six rebounds and seven assists from the point guard slot. Mang swiped six steals to go with her game-high point total.

Marywood scored the first six points of Monday night's game before Jazmyn Robinson hit a pair of free throws to put the Giants on the board. A 3-pointer by Ashley Evans made the score 15-14 in favor of the Pacers with just over 14 minutes left in the period, five-point run by the hosts pushed their advantage to 20-14 with 12:48 left. Trailing 26-19, Keystone scored back-to-back buckets to narrow its deficit to 26-23 with eight-and-a-half minutes to play, and a Tiana Cuttino trey, following a Pacer free throw, brought the Giants to within two points with 7:15 showing on the clock.
 
Marywood countered with an eight-point run to build a 35-26 advantage, but the Giants battled back to within 37-34. The Pacers then rattled off eight-straight points to hold a 11-point advantage, 45-34 with one minute left in the period. Another 3-pointer from Evans with 25 seconds to play narrowed the Giants' deficit to 47-39 at the break. 
 
The Pacers, who shot 54.5 percent from the floor in the first half, was led by Brittany Mang's 12 points while Lindsey Schroth added nine points.  Charlene Hook had nine points on three long-range shots, to led Keystone, who hit on 40 percent of their attempts from the floor in the opening frame and connected on six attempts from beyond the arc.
 
Alexis Jones followed Hook's fourth three-pointer of the game with a pair of free throws to cut the Pacers' advantage to 49-44 with just over two minutes into the second half.  Marywood pushed their lead back to 10 points before a Cuttino lay-in followed by a Jerica Rode basket cut Keystone's deficit to 57-50. The hosts pushed their advantage to 65-53 with eight minutes remaining before a three-point play from Robinson made the score 65-56 in favor of the hosts with just under six minutes remaining.

Marywood pushed its lead to 14 points at 71-57 with just over three minutes remaining, but Keystone continued to battle, narrowing its deficit to 76-68 on a layup with Jenna Downs with 1:07 to play and again to eight points on a Cuttino layup with 27 second left on the clock. Cuttino closed out the scoring with 11 seconds remaining to close out the scoring, but it was not enough as the Pacers prevailed, 79-72.      
 
The Giants, who suffered back-to-back losses for the first time this season, placed four players in double-figures, led by Cuttino and Robinson, who netted 13 points apiece. Hook finished the contest with 12 points while Downs added 10 points while leading the squad with six re bounds. Robinson finished an assist shy of a double-double after tallying a game-high nine helpers while Cuttino collected a team-best five steals. The Giants shot 45.5 percent from the field on the evening including a 40.9 percent pace from three-point land while shooting 61.9 percent from the charity stripe. 

Marywood returns to the court Wednesday when it travels to take on CSAC foe Rosemont College. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
