Scranton, PA - The Marywood University field hockey team picked up its first victory of the season with a 6-1 win over Wells College Tuesday at Pacers Turf Field. The Pacers offense clicked with help from Leanne McManus' four-goal effort.

The Pacers more than doubled their season goal total with six scores. Amelia Waibel ended a string of scoreless penalty corner opportunities after winning a scrum with a goal from a Kathrynn Morin assist at the 12:37 mark. Waibel added an assist on the Pacers' sixth goal for a multi-point effort.

McManus lit up the Express defense with four goals on six shots. She put the Pacers ahead 2-0 at the 23:13 mark when she rifled a shot from the right side. After Wells' Cat Taylor cut the lead in half with an eight-yard shoveled goal, McManus rocketed a shot from the top of the circle at 37:17 to give the Pacers' a two-goal lead.

McManus wasn't finished in the second half, adding two more goals in the second half. The Wilkes-Barre, PA product hustled down the field for a golden fast-break opportunity from Julie Kowalski, before capping her night with a goal from a Waibel pass with 6:31 remaining in the game.

Sarah Hindmen also came through with a goal 1:22 into the second half. Hindmen settled a ball at the corner of the box and launched it into the cage.

In total, the hosts outshot the Express by a 24-to-4 margin and held the decisive 8-to-3 edge in penalty corners.

Express goalkeeper Sydney Line allowed six goals on 16 shots while her counterpart, Natalie Winters, turned aside 2-of-3 shots on net that she faced. Winters made a saves from Amber Jordan with 10 minutes remaining. Defensively, Wells' Shelby Bourn recorded two defensive saves for the Express.

The victory marks the Pacers' first win since an overtime win over Cedar Crest on Oct. 17, 2012.

Marywood will have a short rest before taking on Misericordia University on Thursday at 4:00 pm.
