Swimming and Diving Dominates Cazenovia to Win Opener

Cazenovia, NY - Marywood University's men's and women's swimming and diving programs dominated host Cazenovia College in the opening dual meet of the 2013-14 season for both programs.  The men won 188-14 while the women were 171-62 victors.  Both teams now stand at 1-0 on the year.

The Pacers won 23 of 26 events on the day, only falling in 1-meter diving twice to Cazenovia's Michelle Swanson and the Wildcats' Laurea Krasniqi won the 200 IM.  The 200 medley relay teams for Marywood started off with wins.  On the women's side, Catherine Anlas, Hailey Moorehead, Alyssa Desiderio and Kim Petersen won in a time of 2:02.31.  The men's team of Daniel Adams, Chris Brown, Thomas Missal and Anthony Pisano won in 1:45.60.

Patricia Caiati won the 1000 free for the women in 12:17.77 while Eddie Sanborn III won the men's 1000 in 10:53.03.  Katie Paterson won the 200 free in 20:07.97 while Jason Beabout won the men's 200 in 1:52.19.

In the 50 free, Petersen won for the women in 27.21 while Adams won the men's race in 23.00 flat.  Zachary Haney won the men's 200 IM in 2:06.85.  Swanson won the six-dive 1-meter diving for Cazenovia while Marywood had second through fifth place finishes from Tiffany Mathis, Gabriella Craezzo, Heather Wimmer and Morgan Walters, respectively.  In the full eleven-dives, Swanson edged Wimmer while Zachary Lewis and Peter Inirio finished 1-2 for Marywood in men's 1-meter.

Paterson won the 200 butterfly for the women in 2:27.56 while Andy Blevins won the men's 200 butterfly in 2:08.48.  In the 100 free, Marywood's Anlas won the women's race in 57.83 and Bryon Scholl won the men's race in 52.02.  The 200 backstroke went to Marywood's Kayleigh Velott (2:31.11) and Haney (2:03.38) while the 500 free went to Caiati (5:56.38) and Beabout (5:02.69).

Moorehead wont he 200 breast in 2:42.87 for the women while Brown won the men's race in 2:29.00.  The 200 freestyle relay teams for the Pacers closed the event with wins on both the women's (Valerie Barlow, Tiffany Smith, Paterson, Anlas; 1:46.23) and men's (Beabout, Ryan Widenor, Michael Stauffer, Adams; 1:34.87) sides.

Marywood returns to action Friday when they host King's College at 6:00 pm at Marywood's Aquatics Center.

*NOTE:  The women's 200 yard IM (event 9) was won by Cazenovia's Laura Krasniqi. Cara Cassandro finished in third place. The results page does not reflect this.  The women's final score was 171-62.
