Volleyball Wins Fifth Straight With Victory over Defenders

Clarks Summit, PA – Marywood University won its fifth match in a row, defeating Baptist Bible in straight sets Wednesday in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's volleyball action. The Pacers won by scores of 25-20, 25-7, 25-22 to improve their record to 16-8 in the regular season with a 7-2 mark in conference play. The Defenders fall to 13-16 (6-4 CSAC) following an eight-game winning streak earlier in the season.

Mikayla Bristol recorded a kill on half of her attacks, posting 11 on 22 attempts for a .455 shooting percentage. Amy Kester totaled eight kills and six digs. Ashley Zalewski chipped in with six kills.

Kelly Chadwick garnered 32 of Marywood's 33 assists. Rachel Tollett continued her impressive season from the libero position with 17 digs and four service aces. Ashley Cavallier also reached double-digits with 13 digs.

Getting off to a quick start, the Defenders jumped out on top of the Pacers early with a 10-4 lead. Marywood came out of the timeout and quickly overcame its deficit and took the lead. Baptist Bible tried to hang on and get back on top, but the Pacers were too strong as they ended the first set with five of the final six points to earn a 25-20 win. 

Marywood claimed one of the largest margins of victory of the season in a dominating second set, toppling the Defenders by a 25-7 score. The Pacers had a shooting percentage of .455 with 10 kills, zero errors on 22 attempts.

Baptist Bible regained composure in the third set, gliding to a 6-1 lead. Again, the Pacers powered back, tying the score at seven apiece. Marywood closed the match with a 25-22 win. 

Marywood sits in fourth place in the CSAC standings, while the Defenders trail in fifth. The Pacers face a crucial test Saturday when they host third-place Neumann University (18-10, 7-1 CSAC) in what will surely be a battle for positioning in the conference playoffs.
