Volleyball Falls to Highlanders, 3-0

Scranton, PA - In a battle of two one-loss conference teams, Cairn University defeated Marywood University 3-0 Tuesday in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's volleyball action. The Highlanders defeated the Pacers by scores of 25-16, 25-22, 25-21. The loss drops Marywood to 11-7 overall with a 2-2 record in the CSAC, while Cairn improves to 14-5 overall with a 4-1 mark in the conference.

Rachel Tollett finished with 19 digs for the Pacers. Ashley Cavellier posted 12 digs, and Amy Kester contributed three blocked shots. Ashley Zalewski and Mikayla Bristol each had a team-high five kills.

Kelly Chadwick supplied 16 assists from the setter spot. Marywood's attack percentage fell below zero to minus-.01 with 17 kills and 18 errors.

Marywood put up a late comeback with a five-point run late in the second set to cut it to within two points. Cairn sealed the deal with an Emily Mayer kill for the win.

The Pacers jumped out to a 7-1 lead to start the third set. Cairn rallied to tie it at 16 apiece. After trading points to make it 19-19, the Highlanders went on a 6-2 run to close out the match.

Marywood hosts its second of three games this week on Thursday when Penn State Berks comes to the Insalaco Arena at 7:00 pm.
