Dallas, PA - Freshman Matthew Clark netted a team-high 17 points in his collegiate debut and Ryan Corrigan added 11 points but Marywood University fell to host Misericordia University 67-60 in the opening round of the 22nd annual Laurel Line Tournament presented by McCarthy Tires at the Anderson Center in Dallas.  Joe Busacca led the Cougars with a game-high 26 points and advanced the hosts to the title game Saturday night at 6:00 pm against Baptist Bible College.  The Defenders were 91-80 winners over the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford in the opening game.

A jumper by Jonathan Velazquez gave Marywood an opening 2-0 lead, and after Misericordia tied it Marywood built a 6-2 lead behind buckets from Clark and another from Velazquez.  A three pointer from Misercordia's Anthony Sergio got the Cougars to within one and ignited a 16-0 run that gave the hosts a comfortable 18-6 lead.

Down 12 with just over 10 minutes to play in the opening half, Marywood settled in defensively and began chipping away at the Cougars' lead over the remainder of the half, pulling to within six at the five minute mark after a trey from Clark and to within three on a long ball from Velazquez with 1:51 to go in the half.  Misericordia would stretch their lead back to six by the halftime break, going into the locker room with a 31-25 lead.

Marywood got to within two several times over the opening five minutes of the second half, but each time the hosts prevented the Pacers from tying to taking the lead.  Marywood was finally able to tie the game at the 14:03 mark on a jumper from Kendall Harris, and eventually took another lead in the game, 37-35, on a layup from Clark with 13:17 to go.

A pair of free throws from Clark with 11:11 to go gave the Pacers a four-point lead (41-37), but the Cougars rattled off a 11-0 run to regain the lead, 48-41, and the hosts would not relinquish the lead again from that point forward.  A Corrigan three with 7:25 to go got Marywood to within two, but Misericordia held the Pacers off the rest of the way en route to the win.

Marywood will take on Pitt-Bradford in the Consolation game Saturday at 4:00 pm in Dallas.  Live stats, video and audio are available for the contest.  Please visit the men's basketball schedule page and click "details" for appropriate links.  Misericordia will take on Baptist Bible for the tournament Championship with tip-time at approximately 6:00 pm.
