Scranton, PA – Marywood University came away with a hard fought 3-1 victory over Baptist Bible College in the first round of the Colonial States Athletic Conference women's volleyball playoffs. The Pacers won by scorer of 25-14, 21-25, 25-18, 30-28.

Kelly Chadwick provided a season-high 49 assists to set the Marywood single season assists record. Chadwick's 804 assists on the year breaks Alyssa Hartranft's 2011 record of 779 for a season.

The Pacers began the first set much like their 3-0 meeting with the Defenders two weeks ago. The Pacers shot .364 from the floor to cruise to a 25-14 win.

Baptist Bible finally had an answer for Marywood in the second, jumping out to a 4-1 lead thanks to three of Hannah Griffith's 18 kills.

Marywood jumped out in the early going of the third set with a six-point run that established a comfortable 9-2 lead. Baptist Bible cut the deficit to three, trailing 10-7. That would be as close as the Defenders would come before the Pacers pulled away for the 25-18 win.

The fourth set would turn out to be one of the wildest the Pacers played all season. Marywood jumped out to a 5-0 lead but Baptist Bible shaved that to a 6-5 deficit. It looked like Marywood was set for a date in the semifinals with a 21-16 lead. The Defenders stormed back to tie it at 21 apiece. Marywood had a match point with a 24-22 lead; however, Baptist Bible had a three-point rally and was a point away from stealing the once all-but-assured victory. The Pacers capitalized on two Defender errors to take the match with a 30-28 win.

A six point run in the early going of the third set gave Marywood University a comfortable 9-2 lead on BBC.  The Lady Defenders would cut their deficit to 3, trailing 10-7, but that was as close as they would get, as the Pacers pulled away. The set finished 25-18.

Fresh off her first team all-Conference award, Ashley Zalewski boasted one of her strongest performances of the season with 20 kills on 36 attempts for an astounding .500 shooting percentage.

Four players had double-digit digs for the game. Rachel Tollett provided 23 digs. Chadwick enlisted a double-double with 18 digs. Ashley Cavellier produced 11, and Mackenzie Goodwin gathered 10.

Amy Kester finished with six blocks and eight kills. Kathleen Reilly and Sara Melick posted seven kills each.

Marywood will play at top-seeded Cabrini on Thurdsay at 7:00 pm. Neumann and Cairn will meet in the other semifinal.
