MSM Defeats Marywood in Season Opener

Newburgh, NY – Marywood University women's lacrosse began a new coaching era with a 15-7 loss to Mount Saint Mary College Wednesday in its season opener. The Knights broke open a 3-3 stalemate with four consecutive goals late in the first half in interim coach Lindsey Hendricks' debut.

Diana D'Achille scored three goals for the Pacers. Sarah Caughy added two goals and an assist. 

Four Pacer players – D'Achille, Caughy, Kimberly Commisso, Amanda Khozouri – tallied three ground balls.


Mount Saint Mary held a 36-22 advantage over Marywood in shots. Both teams finished with 19 ground balls. Mount Saint Mary's Nicole Cacioppo and Kaileen Spadaro each scored three goals.

Kathy DiGiacomo and Commisso also added a goal for Marywood. D'Achille scored three of the Pacers' four goals in the first half.

In net, Leigha Dolcemascolo stopped 16 shots in a losing effort. The Knights' Deirdre Ray earned a win with 12 saves.

After D'Achille ended the drought with a goal 25 seconds before the break, Mount Saint Mary produced another four-goal run to begin the second half. Over a 23:45 run, the Knights outscored the Pacers 8-1.

Marywood continues its three-game Upstate New York slate on Friday at 4 p.m. when it faces Hartwick College. On March 9, it will return to Oneonta, NY to face Oneonta State.
