Marywood in Inaugural Strikeout Cancer Weekend

Baseball - 3/1/2013 9:31:00 AM

Scranton, PA - Marywood University and Keystone College will participate in the Bill Howerton Inaugural Strikeout Cancer Weekend to be held April 13th and 14th  at the newly renovated PNC Field, home of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, the AAA affiliate of the New York Yankees.  The event will honor Howerton, who coached the University of Scranton for 16 seasons and money raised will be donated to the American Cancer Society.  Marywood will be the host school for the CSAC game.

The action begins on Saturday with North Pocono taking on Pocono Mountain East in high school action at 11:00 a.m. before Keystone meets Marywood University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference game between the four-time defending conference champion Giants and the Pacers, who qualified for CSAC playoffs last spring.  On Sunday, Old Forge plays Susquehanna in the day's high school game at 11:00 a.m. before Misericordia University and Cortland State meet in the final game of the weekend in a non-conference matchup of NCAA Division III programs that were ranked last season.

There will be no charge for admission to the games at PNC Field, though all participating teams are putting together a game-day program with ads from local businesses and T-shirt sales are being held by the participating schools.  Additionally, there will be raffles and donation buckets at the event.
