Immaculata, PA – Immaculata University (6-5, 2-0 CSAC) got two strong performances on the mound to carry them to a pair of CSAC-opening wins over visiting Marywood University (3-7, 0-2 CSAC) Sunday afternoon.  In the first game, Immaculata pitcher Bryan McHale tossed a three-hit shutout to carry the Mighty Macs to a 2-0 victory in their CSAC opener.  In the second game, Ricard Cusic went six innings, allowing one run en route to a 4-2 victory and sweep of the doubleheader.  With the two wins, Immaculata is now riding a season-high four game winning streak, all at home.

McHale (2-1) was outstanding on the mound for the Mighty Macs earning his third career shutout in game one.  He surrendered just three hits while striking out six and walking one.  He retired 20 of 21 to finish the game, including the last 12, after wiggling out of a first inning jam.  With the bases loaded and one out on two hits (a Jonathan Woytach double and Thomas Richards single) and a walk, McHale struck out back-to-back-hitters to keep the Pacers off the board in what turned out to be their only threat of the first game.

Matthew Lawson (1-for-3, RBI, run) got the scoring started in the bottom of the third with two outs when he notched Immaculata's first hit with an RBI double to left-center field to score Elijah Vottero.  Matt Hardy followed that up with a line drive RBI single over the third baseman's head to extend the Mighty Mac advantage to 2-0 through two innings.  They turned out to be Immaculata's only two hits in the first game against Marywood pitcher Nick DeFebo, who went six full innings and allowed the two runs on two hits while striking out five.

In the second game, Immaculata broke a late tie with a three-run sixth inning to give them the lead for good.  Alex Kobylinski (1-for-4, 2 RBIs) hit a two-run single through the left side with the bases loaded and two outs to break the tie and give the Mighty Macs a 3-1 lead.  An RBI single by Lawson (2-for-3, RBI, R) scored Vottero to extend the advantage to 4-1.

Cusic (2-0) gave the Mighty Macs their second solid performance of the day on the mound with six quality innings, surrendering one run on six hits while striking out four and walking one.

Nicholas Campione earned his second save of the year giving up one run to seal the sweep.

The Mighty Macs used another two-out RBI to take the lead in the bottom of the third.  Designated hitter Michael Lascomb (2-for-2, RBI) hit an RBI single up the middle to score Lawson, who doubled with two outs.

Marywood tied the game in the top of the fourth with one run on an Erik Pulkkinen RBI, but Cusic induced a fly out to escape the bases loaded jam.

In the top of the fifth with the scored still tied at one and the go-ahead run on third base with nobody out, Cusic got two groundouts and a lineout to escape the jam with the score still locked at 1-1, allowing the Mighty Macs to take the lead in the sixth.

Woytach and Richards both finished game two 3-for-4 for Marywood with Woytach picking up two doubles and Richards getting one.

Marywood returns to the diamond Monday when they host PSU-Scranton at 4:00 pm.
