Pacers Begin Title Defense with 8-1 Win

Gwynedd Valley, PA - Marywood University began its quest for a fourth consecutive Colonial States Athletic Conference men's tennis championship with an impressive 8-1 win over host Gwynedd-Mercy College Saturday afternoon. The Pacers, who evened their overall record at 3-3 on the year (1-0 CSAC), have not lost a league match since April 5, 2009. GMC fell to 1-5, 1-1 CSAC with the loss.

Marywood jumped out to a 3-0 lead after allowing a combined six points in doubles play.  Todd Doran and Mark Van Nort earned an 8-2 win in #1 doubles action while Ethan Jones and Frank Nicolosi were 8-3 winners at #2 doubles.  Ryan Mulqueen and Daniel Tintle won 8-1 at #3.

In singles action, Doran handled Alexander Channick 6-0, 6-2 in the top flight while GMC's Danny Watts earned a 7-6 (9-7), 5-7, 10-7 win over Jones at #2 singles.  In another three-set match, Nicolosi downed Brandon Rodriguez 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 at #5 singles.  Mulqueen (#3), Van Nort (#4) and Tintle (#6) also won in singles play.

Marywood returns to the courts tomorrow in Annville when it takes on Lebanon Valley College in a re-make of last Sunday's postponed match.
