Scranton, PA - Marywood University held a slight 7-6 advantage in hits but the University of Scranton held off the Pacers for a 3-1 non-conference victory Monday in baseball action at Pacers' field.  The Royals improved to 13-7 with the win while Marywood slipped to 3-10.

With the game delayed 30 minutes due to a rain shower, Marywood finally took the field for their first home game.  The long layoff proved costly to the Pacers, who gave up two runs in the second and could only muster some offense starting in the eighth inning.

Scranton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second when Eric Pizzico doubled down the left field line to score Ray Grapsy.  In the sixth, the Royals extended their lead to 3-0 on an RBI double from Michael Trabulsi.

Marywood got one back in the eighth when Mike Diskin scored on a routine groundout by Erik Pulkkinnen.  The Pacers got runners on second and third in the bottom of the ninth but were unable to score the tying runs.

The Pacers could do little to solve the arm of Robert Della Polla over the first six innings as they managed just three hits during the span.  Della Polla improved to 4-1 on the year after fanning eight Pacers.  Josh Bayzick got his third save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth for the Royals.

Bryan Noonan fell to 0-2 for Marywood despite a solid eight inning effort.  Noonan allowed two earned runs on six hits and struck out two.

Marywood returns to action Tuesday when they travel to Neumann University for a CSAC game.  The nine-inning affair will start at 3:00 p.m. in Aston.
