Women's Lacrosse Finds Momentum to Topple Gators

Scranton, PA – Marywood University broke open an 8-8 tie with four consecutive goals midway through the second half en route to a 14-11 victory over Notre Dame University of Maryland Saturday in Colonial States women's lacrosse action. Interim assistant coach Tara Macciocco filled in for interim head coach Lindsey Hendricks to guide the Pacers to a victory.

Kimberly Commisso led the Pacers with four goals, seven ground balls, and 13 draw controls. Stacy Griffing scored three goals
, and Sarah Caughy found the back of the net twice to go with her four ground balls.

In the first women's lacrosse appearance of her career, Marywood's Briana Bacchetta scored two goals late in the second half with the game on the line.

Leigha Dolcemascolo made seven saves and accumulated two ground balls in goal for her fourth victory of the season.

The Pacers (4-7, 4-2 CSAC) held a slight 24-19 advantage in ground balls and a 29-24 edge in shots. The Gators won 16 draw controls to the Pacers' 13.

The Gators (4-4, 2-3 CSAC) were led by Alli Terry's five goals in her march toward the Notre Dame (Md.) scoring record. Katie Johnston, Brittany Peddicord and Molly Murray all contributed two goals. Kate Donadio filled in at the goalkeeper position to make nine saves.

With the game tied at eight apiece, Commisso willed her way to a goal at 14:32. Fifteen seconds after Griffing added an insurance goal, Bacchetta bounced a free-position shot past the goalkeeper to go on top 11-8. Caughy finished the scoring run at 10:47 to cement a four-goal lead.

A pair of Terry goals cut the Pacers' lead to three but tallies by Caughy and Bacchetta kept the Gators at bay.

Marywood came off the blocks in good form when Carly Kliment scored 13 seconds into the game off a Dana Grossjung pass. The Pacers netted the first four goals of the game, including a man-down goal by Griffing from Kathy DiGiacomo, in the first 7:17. Notre Dame finally got on the board at 19:58 when Murray connected on a free-position shot.

After Grossjung put Marywood on top 5-1, Notre Dame held the Pacers scoreless for the final 14:36 of the first half. In the meantime, the Gators reeled off three goals to cut the lead to 5-4.

Peddicord opened the second half with a goal to tie the game at 5-5. Thirty one seconds later, Commisso muscled her way to a score to put Marywood back on top at 6-5.

Marywood returns to action Thursday at Centenary College. The Pacers then host Gwynedd-Mercy College on April 20 at 1:00 pm.
