Commisso Shatters Ground Ball Record in CSAC Win

Hackettstown, NJ - Kimberly Commisso demolished the school record for ground balls to lead Marywood University women's lacrosse to a 16-5 victory over Centenary College Thursday in Colonial States Athletic Conference action. The victory assures the Pacers of a spot in the CSAC playoffs, where they currently sit in sole possession of third place with a 5-7 overall, 5-2 conference record.

Commisso broke the record with 17 ground balls. It snaps the previous mark, set three times, of 10 ground balls. She also added two goals, an assist and 13 draw controls.

Sarah Caughy tallied seven goals for the second time this season to lead the Pacers in scoring. Kathy DiGiacomo and Stacy Griffing each totaled two goals and two assists.

Dana Grossjung also contributed four points with a goal and three assists. Maurissa Hammond had a multi-goal game with two scores.

Marywood outshot the Cyclones by a 38-16 margin. It held a 36-30 advantage in ground balls. Led by Commisso and Caughy, the Pacers won 18 of 24 draw controls.

Leigha Dolcemascolo picked up her fifth win of the season with eight saves for the Pacers.

Marywood jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first half. Griffing scored 91 seconds into the game. From there, the Pacers scored the first four goals of the game until Centenary's Brittlyn Dendy found the back of the net with 16:38 on the clock. Caughy scored four of the Pacers' five goals of the half as they entered the break ahead 7-2.

Commisso and Caughy opened the second half with a pair of goals to advance the Pacer lead to seven.

Marywood hosts its final CSAC regular season game of the year Saturday when it takes on Gwynedd-Mercy College at 1:00 pm. The Pacers-Griffins contest is a Think Pink game to benefit the Susan B. Komen Foundation in support of breast cancer awareness. The game will be held to honor the memory of Marilyn Glenn.
