Scranton, PA - Visiting Cairn University scored two late runs in the opening game of a baseball twinbill to earn a 5-4 win, their first CSAC victory of the season, before Marywood closed the day with a 5-2 win in the nightcap.  Cairn (6-26, 1-13 CSAC) scored two in the sixth to earn the one run win while Marywood (11-17, 4-11 CSAC) got three RBI from Chris Ortiz and David Maione on the day.

Marywood trailed 2-0 after the top of the first in the opener but answered with four run inning of their own highlighted by a bases loaded walk and a two-run single from Maione.  But Marywood could not add to their lead, and after Cairn got one back in the third to make it 4-3, the Highlanders used a routine groundout and an infield single to plate the winning runs in the top of the sixth.

Billy Kelly took the loss for Marywood after going 5.1 innings, allowing just two earned runs while striking out five.  Nicholas DeFebo went 1.2 innings and allowed just one hit in relief.  Ortiz was 1-for-2 with a run scored and RBI in the opener while Maione finished 1-for-3 with his two-run single. 

In the nightcap, the two teams battled to a 2-2 tie after one inning while held til the bottom of the third when Marywood got a RBI singles from Dan Capwell and Maione.  Marywood added an insurance run in the fifth when Ortiz scored on a balk when runners were on the corners.

Russell Baldino got his first win of the year for the Pacers in the nightcap, going five full and striking out four while allowing no earned runs.  Tyler Lyman got the save. 

Marywood returns to action Sunday with a non-conference nine inning game at Wilkes University.  Game time is 1:00 p.m.
