Box Score

Scranton, PA – Marywood University scored seven consecutive second-half goals to come from behind in a 13-11 victory over Centenary College Thursday in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action. The regular season finale victory fogs up the CSAC playoff bracket; the Pacers will not find out its seed or opponent in the conference playoffs until after Thursday night's Gwynedd-Mercy/Neumann contest. The Pacers hand the then-second place Cyclones just their second loss of the season.

Trailing by three goals with 2:30 left in the third quarter, Marywood (5-10, 4-2 CSAC) had seven different players find the back of the net to take a 13-9 lead over the Centenary. The Pacers defense held the Cyclones (12-2, 4-2 CSAC) scoreless for a 17:25 stretch.

Brandon Terlizzi led the Pacers with two goals and an assist. Sam Trill also contributed three points with three assists. Riley Dobel, Derek Schmidt, Scott Slater and Cody Bachman all scored twice.

Nicholas Cornella made 19 saves for the Pacers to pick up his fifth win of the season. John Werner led the Pacers with five ground balls. Ryan Nowell and Taylor Goldson each vacuumed four ground balls. Nowell and Schmidt caused two turnovers apiece.

Both teams' shared near identical box scores. The Cyclones edged the Pacers 44-43 in shots. Both teams tied with 29 ground balls and 19 clears. Centenary recorded two more saves (21) and turnovers (14) than Marywood.

After holding Centenary scoreless through much of the first quarter, Marywood and its 2-0 lead quickly vanished once Trevor Krupinski and Jeff Prudente scored in a final 2:22 of the quarter. The Cyclones went up by as many as two in the second before Schmidt tallied a goal to go into the break trailing 6-5.

Centenary's Robert Nuzzolese punched the first two goals of second half to give Centenary a three-goal lead. After Dobel and the Cyclones' Conor Nolan traded goals, Centenary found itself ahead 9-6 at 2:30 when Marywood's scoring barrage began with a Scott Slater man-up goal from Brandon Terlizzi.

The Pacers tied the game at 9-all off a brilliant play off a faceoff. Just seven seconds after Nester put the Pacers within a goal, Terlizzi won via faceoff violation and drove the field for a strike from 20 yards out. Dobel caught a clean pass from Dylan Swope to supply the Pacers a 10-9 lead.

The CSAC semifinals begin Tuesday, April 30. Cabrini College holds the top spot. Marywood, Gwynedd-Mercy and Centenary all vie for the remaining slots once Thursday's contests are completed.
