Pacers Fall to Griffins in Second Half

Gwynedd Valley, PA – Gwynedd-Mercy College outscored Marywood University 6-3 in the second half for a come-from-behind 13-10 victory in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's lacrosse. The Griffins erased a two-goal deficit in the final minute of the second period with six consecutive goals to outmatch the Pacers late in the game.

Sam Trill and Greg Nester each totaled three goals for the Pacers (3-8, 2-1 CSAC). Dylan Swope continued his performance from Wednesday's record-breaking game with three assists.

Brandon Terlizzi went 16-for-26 from the faceoff circle for the Pacers and added a team-high six ground balls. Derek Schmidt and Taylor Goldson vacuumed four ground balls apiece.
Marywood's Nicholas Cornella stopped 15 shots in goal.

Gwynedd-Mercy (5-4, 1-1 CSAC) was led by Tony McCraw, Roy Bakeoven and William Beck's three-goal efforts. Beck and Bakeoven produced six and five points, respectively.

Marywood was outshot by the Griffins by a 36-29 margin. Gwynedd-Mercy held a slight 23-22 advantage in ground balls. Marywood was successful on 16-of-19 clear attempts and turned the ball over 19 times.

After falling by as many as four goals in the second half, Ryan Nowell ended the drought with a netter from Swope. A mere nine seconds later, Nester put one past the goalkeeper to trail 4:36 in the third. Trill cut the deficit to one from a Dante Frederico pass, making it an 11-10 game 1:20 later.

The Griffins held the Pacers scoreless for the remaining 18:16 of the game. Bakeoven pushed the lead to two at 2:04 in the third, and McCraw posted the only tally of the fourth period.

The Pacers take a week off before traveling to No. 11 Cabrini College in Radnor, Pa. on Saturday. They return home April 17 to face Susquehanna University at 4:00 pm.
