Gwynedd Valley, PA – Host and four-seed  Gwynedd-Mercy College edge #5 Marywood 2-1 Wednesday afternoon to advance to this weekend's CSAC Softball Championships at Neumann University.  The Griffins improved to 19-14 overall and will take on #1 Neumann Friday morning while Marywood fell to 18-15 and will await a possible berth into the ECAC South Region tournament.

Gwynedd-Mercy opened the scoring in the bottom of the second with an unearned run.  Left-fielder Alexis Deal walked and stole second, then moved to third on a single to right from Katlin Nuscis and would score on the same play due to an error.
Marywood tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth on a leadoff homer from Samantha Rayhon.  After taking two called strikes, Rayhon fouled off three straight pitches and took one ball to stay alive before blasting her shot over the centerfield fence.

The Griffins reclaimed a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth.  After back-to-back swinging strikeouts to start the inning, back-to-back doubles would give the hosts the lead.  Stephanie Farrar doubled to left and promptly scored when pitcher helped her own cause with a RBI double to left-center.

The Pacers threatened with two outs in the sixth as Rayhon got on second thanks to a two-base error.  Diana Butash also reached on an error which moved pinch-runner Taresa Dongilli to third.  After Butash stole second to give the Pacers runners at second and third, Lamont ended Marywood's threat by getting Stine to fly out to center to end the inning.

The Griffins threatened to add to their lead in the bottom of the sixth when they loaded the bases, but Marywood relief pitcher Katherine King got the Pacers out of the jam.

Stine went 5.2 innings, allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out five.  Butash finished the game 2-for-3 while Rayhon's homer accounted for the Pacers' lone RBI.  Farrar was 2-for-2 for the Griffins while Lamont was 2-for-3.  Lamont got the win on the mound with a complete-game effort, allowing one run on six hits while fanning three.

#6 Keystone downed #3 Centenary Wednesday in the other preliminary round game and will open the CSAC Championships with top-seeded Neumann University Friday.  ECAC South Region Tournament pairings are expected to be announced late Monday afternoon after the NCAA tournament field is set.
