#8 Carnegie Mellon Overpowers Pacers in NCAA Opener

Pittsburgh, PA - Carnegie Mellon University handed Marywood a 5-0 loss in the Pacers' first ever trip to the NCAA women's tennis tournament Friday afternoon in Pittsburgh.  The Tartans, currently ranked 8th in the country, improved to 13-7 on the year with the win and will take on #27 Mary Washington Saturday at 12:00 noon in the second round.  Marywood closes out their stellar season with a 12-6 overall mark.

Katie Cecil and Bryn Raschke earned the Tartans their first points of the match with a quick 8-0 win over Melissa Hudock and Carly Leitzel at #1 doubles.  On the #2 doubles court, Lydia Utkin and Alexandra Tapak defeated Megan Nastelli and Kristen Lambert by an identical score, while Marywood's #3 duo of Emily Hoskins and Elspeth Peterson fell to Abbey Hamstra and Elizabeth Martin by a score of 8-2.

In singles play, Tapak downed Devon Underwood 6-0, 6-1 to put Carnegie Mellon up 4-0 in the match and the Tartans closed out the match with the Pacers when Martin beat Hudock 6-1, 6-2 at #2 singles.
