Softball Falls to #1 Alvernia in ECACs

Reading, PA - Top-seed Alvernia University improved to 35-9 on the season and advanced to this weekend's ECAC South Region Championships with a 7-0 win over #8 Marywood University Thursday afternoon in Reading.  The Crusaders will host the double-elimination tournament this weekend while the Pacers close out their 2013 campaign with an 18-16 record. 

Alvernia jumped out a 2-0 lead in the first and never relinquished control, limiting the Pacers to five hits in the game. Marywood allowed just eight hits of their own but a two-run double in the third doubled the Crusaders' lead and put the game out of reach.

Samantha Penk as 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored while Shannon Grim had three RBI.  Samantha Rayhon had Marywood's lone extra base hit, a double.  Alexandra Stine (10-8) took the loss on the mound for Marywood.
