Volleyball Wins Gold Bracket with Pair of Victories

Bethlehem, PA – Marywood University women's volleyball won the Gold Bracket Saturday at the Greyhound Premiere Invitational with a 3-1 win over Alvernia University and a 3-0 victory against Wilkes University. The Gold Bracket consisted of teams that finished second with 1-1 records in their Friday pools at the Moravian College tournament.

Rachel Tollett was named to the All-Tournament team with 97 digs (6.47 per set) throughout the four-match invitational.

The Pacers (3-1) began the day with a 25-21, 25-11, 18-25, 28-26 victory over the Crusaders. Kelly Chadwick had a game-leading 38 assists. Amy Kester had 10 kills, four blocks, 14 digs and a 36.4 attack percentage. Sara Melick recorded eight kills.

Tollett (22) and Ashley Cavellier (20) had 20-plus dig efforts. Amanda Khozouri had her top outing of the tournament with 17 digs.

The Pacers were dominant from the serve with a season-high 15 aces. Chadwick led with six aces, and Tollet added five aces.

Marywood cruised to a victory over Wilkes by scores of 25-19, 25-19, 25-12 to take the Gold Bracket. Melick and Cavellier led the match with 11 kills apiece. Kester added 20 digs, and Tollet tabbed 18 digs.

Melick yielded a 55 attack percentage on 20 attempts. Marywood went through the first and third sets with just one error. Marywood posted a .444 attack percentage in the third set.

The Colonels and Pacers will rematch Wednesday in the Insalaco Arena at 7:00 pm.
