Boxscore vs. Wells
Oswego, NY – The Marywood University volleyball team split its opening games of the Oswego State Tournament on Friday. The Pacers defeated Wells College 3-0 before falling to Oswego State 3-2 in the nightcap.
The Pacers (5-2 overall) defeated Wells by scores of 25-21, 25-17, 25-23. Ashley Zalewski led the Pacers with 10 kills. Rachel Tollett had 22 digs, and Amy Kester blocked three shots to go along with her seven kills.
Kelly Chadwick was responsible for all but one of the Pacers assists with 29 and recorded a team-high three aces. Amanda Khozouri made nine digs.
The Pacers had an attack percent of .211 and kept the Express (1-6 overall) to under 20 percent in all three sets. Marywood doubled up Wells with a 10-5 service ace advantage.
Wells' Zakarra Butts led her team with seven kills and hit 40 percent for the match.
In its second match, Marywood won the first two sets before Oswego State (5-5 overall) strung together a three-set comeback to end the Pacers' four-match winning streak. The Lakers won by scores of 27-29, 13-25, 25-22, 25-15, 15-9.
Marywood held a two-point lead late in the third set. Trailing 20-18, Oswego State went on a 7-2 run to conclude the victory. The Pacers battled back and forth in the first set, needing extra points to decide the winner. After several stalemates, the Pacers took the game 29-27.
Oswego State jumped out to a lead in the deciding set and held on for a 15-9 win.
Marywood will finish the Oswego State tournament Saturday with matches against SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome at noon and Utica College at 2:00 pm.
