Men's Tennis Opens Season with 8-1 Win at Miseri

Dallas, PA - Marywood University opened the 2013-14 men's tennis season with a convincing 8-1 win over local rival Misericordia University.  The Pacers (1-0) swept three close doubles matches before taking five of six singles matches en route to the win.

Ryan Mulqueen and Mark Van Nort teamed up for for a 8-6 win at #1 doubles before Anthony Aveline and Daniel Tintle earned a close 9-8 (7-1) win at #2 doubles.  At #3 doubles, the duo of Brendan Brown and Gavin Coyne earned a 9-7 win.

In singles action, Mulqueen earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at the top singles flight while Tintle won 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 at #2.  Van Nort picked up a three set (2-6, 7-5, 10-6) win at at #3 singles and Brown and Aveline won by identical scores (6-4, 6-2) at four and five singles, respectively.

Misercordia avoided the shutout with a 6-4, 6-3 win from Eric Correll over Gianni Monteleone at #6 singles.

The Pacers return to action next Saturday and Sunday when they participate in the University of Scranton's Invitational.  The Invitational is a singles event and team scores will not be kept.
