Scranton, PA – Marywood University volleyball engineered two late comebacks to defeat Wilkes University 3-0 Wednesday for the second time in five days. The Pacers improve their record to 4-1 on the season with a win in their home opener.
The Colonels had the Pacers on the ropes in the second and third sets. Facing a Wilkes' set point at 24-22 in the second, Marywood went on a four-point run to cap a 26-24 victory.
The Pacers rattled off eight consecutive points from Ashley Cavellier serves to erase a five-point 19-14 deficit in the third set. When Wilkes came back to tie it at 23 apiece, Sara Melick misdirected a ball to give the Pacers match point. Kathleen Reilly made a block to cap the victory.
Marywood defeated the Colonels by scores of 25-15, 26-24, 25-23. Melick led the Pacers with 11 kills. Rachel Tollett produced 17 digs, and Amanda Khozouri reached double digits with 10 digs.
Cavellier provided three service aces to guide the Pacer comebacks. Kelly Chadwick made 33 assists. Reilly totaled three blocks.
Marywood completed just one error in the first set, owning a .440 attack percentage.
The Pacers enjoy nine days off before they return to the court in the Oswego Tournament in Oswego, N.Y. on Sept. 13.
