Scranton, PA - York College's (Pa.) Jamie Sokolis tapped home a corner kick from Clare Chatham in the 74th minute of play as the Spartans edged host Marywood 1-0 in the opening game of the 3rd annual Joe Bochicchio Memorial Classic in Scranton.

Marywood out-shot the Spartans 6-5 in the first half, putting two shots on frame while not yielding a shot on goal from York in the first stanza.  The second half was a different story though as York seized momentum offensively, out-shooting Marywood 12-4.  Emily Osborne made four stops to keep the Pacers in the game but could do little to stop the re-directed corner kick from Sokolis.

For the game, York out-shot Marywood 17-10 with six shots on goal to the Pacers' five.  Melanie Glessner recorded three saves for the shutout win.

The University of Scranton beat Lebanon Valley College 1-0 in the other game of the day.

Marywood returns to action Sunday at 1:00 pm against Lebanon Valley College.  Scranton will host York at 1:00 pm on Sunday as well.

The Joe Bochicchio Classic is played annually in memory of late Royals head coach Joe Bochicchio, who passed away in 2007. In 23 seasons, he led The University of Scranton women's soccer program to 296 victories, 15 conference championships and 11 NCAA Tournament appearances.
