Scranton, PA - Marywood University hung tough with Gwynedd Mercy University for the opening 15 minutes of play, but a key 10-0 run over the next four minutes of play sparked the Griffins and the visitors cruised the rest of the way to a 78-64 win over the Pacers Saturday afternoon in CSAC men's basketball action.  Marywood tto 19 points from D.J. Davis and 18 from Ryan Corrigan, but the Griffins placed four in double figures in improving to 12-4 overall and 8-1 in the league. 

Marywood (5-9, 1-6 CSAC) trailed early, but battled back from a seven-point deficit (22-15) and tied the game at 25-25  with 5:40 to go in the opening half on a jumper from Jonathan Velazquez.  Gwynedd responded with a 10-0 run over the next four minutes, taking a 35-25 lead.  The Griffins would go into the locker room with a six-point 35-29 advantage.

Reserve guard Brian Hennessey led the visitors in the first half with nine points on three three-pointers, but it was guard Darnell Artis who proved to be the difference maker the rest of the way as he scored 14 of his game-high 20 points in the second half. 

The Griffins kept around a 10-point lead for much of the second half.  GMU's Seth Heinicke (15 points), Colin Gates (13) and Justin Knight (13) also reached double digits in the win.  Marywood shot 43% from the floor but were just 3 of 16 (18.8%) from long-range for the game.  Gwynedd hit 11 from behind the arc for 52.4% shooting from deep and 46% from the floor.

Marywood returns to action Monday night when they travel to league leader Cabrini College.
