Men's Basketball - 1/24/2014 11:55:00 AM

Scranton, PA – Marywood University's men's basketball Head Coach Bob Simmons and the rest of the Pacers' coaching staff will take part in a nationwide promotion this weekend to battle cancer.  The coaching staff will be donning suits with sneakers in this Saturday's game at Rosemont College (2 pm).

"We are very happy to support the Suits and Sneakers weekend for Coaches vs Cancer when we travel to Rosemont this Saturday" Simmons said.  "This is a cause that is very personal for me and my family as my mom is in her second battle with breast cancer.  The more awareness we can bring to this cause the closer we get to finding a cure for this terrible disease and saving our loved ones, In this case my mom.  We all must continue to fight!"

The Coaches vs. Cancer "Suits and Sneakers" Awareness Weekend is a nationwide event when coaches across the country unite to help finish the fight against cancer. Coaches and their staff are encouraged to wear sneakers with their game attire while coaching games during the weekend to:

  • Raise awareness about the fight against cancer.
  • Share the importance of nutrition and physical activity in reducing one's risk of the disease.
  • Promote the American Cancer Society's free services for those facing cancer and their loved ones available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for information, help, and support.
