Box Score Box ScoreScranton, PA – Marywood University opened its Colonial States Athletic Conference men's soccer slate with a 5-0 victory over Baptist Bible Wednesday at Pacer Field. Marywood recovered from a stingy defense that held the Pacers to one first half goal, scoring four in the second half.
Justin Sunseri and
Patrick Brogan combined for the Pacers' second consecutive shutout. Sunseri had two saves. The Pacers have not allowed a goal in 207 minutes.
Daniel Hull put the Pacers ahead in the 33rd minute after the Defenders kept the Marywood attack in check for much of the first half. Hull beat the goalkeeper on the right side and lifted the ball to hit the far side of goal for a 1-0 lead.
Casey Peckio opened the flood gates for the Pacers in the 61st minute. Peckio headed a
Daniel Lopez corner kick in from of the net to provide a well-needed two-goal cushion.
Less than three minutes later,
Kris Kassel added his first goal of the season not off a penalty kick chance.
Dylan McMahon unleashed a hard shot that keeper Dillon Bowman thwarted in the air. McMahon raced to catch the rebound and sent a pass back to Kassel at the 18. Kassel went high for his third of the season.
In the 71st minute,
Markus Donahoe raced down the right flank from midfield on a breakaway chance. One on one with the keeper, Donahoe hit the far post and the ball deflected into goal.
Eric Boyer scored his first career goal in the 87th minute on his first shot on goal.
Bowman was outstanding in net with seven saves in 77 minutes, 20 seconds. Josh Taylor made two saves in 12:40 for the Defenders.
Marywood outshot the Defenders 36-3 and had a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Pacers travel to Rosemont College Saturday at 4:00 pm.
