Kris Kassel converted a direct kick in the 90th minute for the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Cabrini College Saturday in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's soccer action. Kassel's goal supplied the Cavaliers (8-5, 4-1 CSAC) its first conference loss of the season and ended a two-game slide for the Pacers.
Kassel received his chance with 52 seconds remaining in regulation.
Dylan McMahon was obstructed by two defenders on a breakway chance, allowing Kassel a shot at ending the stalemate just outside of the box 22 yards away. Kassel curled a shot to the high left post, leaving the Cabrini goalkeeper little chance to thwart the bender. It was his fourth goal of the season for the former CSAC First Team selection.
Justin Sunseri, one of four seniors honored before the game, made two saves in goal for his fourth clean sheet of the season. His counterpart CJ Serratore made four saves in his season debut.
Marywood evens its records to 4-4-3 overall with a 2-2 record in the conference. The Pacers currently stand on the brink of the CSAC playoff scenario in sixth place.
Marywood outshot the Cavaliers 12-8 and held a 5-2 edge in shots on goal. The Pacers had five corner kicks to the Cavaliers' one.
