Pacers Eke Out Three-Set Win over Defenders

Scranton, PA - Marywood University closed out three straight nail-bitingly close sets, including two in extra points, for a 3-0 victory over Baptist Bible College Tuesday in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's volleyball action. The Pacers narrowly won by scores of 28-26, 25-23, 27-25. Marywood stays in third place with a 9-6 overall record and a 6-1 mark in conference play. Baptist Bible falls to 5-17 overall and 2-4 in the CSAC.

Three Pacer players put their names into the record books with their performances versus the Defenders. Mikayla Bristol led the Pacers with 14 kills; she ties Ashley Zalewski and Emily Fillman (three times) for the most in a three-set match. Kelly Chadwick posted 34 assists, the third most ever in a three-set match in program history. Amy Kester picked up 23 digs, tying now assistant coach Rachel Tollett '14 for the third most in a three-set match.

Chadwick added 16 digs on defense. Bristol produced a double-double with 17 digs in addition to her 14 kills. Shayna Finn garnered 14 digs for her second-straight double-digit outing.

Cate Anlas and Kathleen Reilly were dominant at the front of the net with nine kills apiece. Reilly and Kester both had a pair of blocks. Amanda Khozouri and Lexi Hammer provided seven and six digs, respectively. 

Baptist Bible was led by Callie Kitowski's 17 kills. Taryn Fritz counted 18 digs, and Hannah Rehm enjoyed a double-double with 19 assists and 17 digs..

Marywood survived a near tumultuous first set. Trailing 16-9, Baptist Bible went on a 12-1 run to take a 21-17 lead off Hannah Rehm and Emily Harding serves. The Pacers tied it at 22 apiece before Bristol generated five kills on the final six Pacer points.

The second set went back-and-forth for the first 23 points. Trailing 23-21, Marywood closed out the set on a four-point run off Khozouri serves. Chadwick scored the go-ahead kill to go up 24-23.

The third set did not come any easier for the Pacers. Harding allowed Baptist Bible to recover from a 18-14 deficit. Harding and Callie Kitowski saved the Defenders on two-straight match point to even the score at 25-25. An Anlas attack was met with a blocking error to give the Pacers a 26-25 lead. Chadwick closed out the match with a kill just inside the left line.

Marywood hosts a decisive match Friday night against Cabrini College at 7 pm. The winner will take possession of second place in the CSAC standings.
