Fiore's Five-Point Day Carries Marywood Over Cairn, 5-0

Langhorne, PA - Alixandria Fiore recorded five points on two goals and an assist and Marywood University improved to 4-2-1 in the CSAC with a 5-0 win over host Cairn University Saturday afternoon in Langhorne. Fiore assisted on the Pacers' first goal and scored the final two.Marywood improved to 4-9-1 overall while Cairn fell to 3-9-1 (2-6-1 CSAC).

Kimberly Vogan opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with her second goal of the season.Vogan and Fiore played a give-and-go down the middle of the field and Vogan ripped a shot over Cairn's goalkeeper to put Marywood up 1-0.Just over four minutes later, Emily Kotcho scored her first collegiate goal when she battled a defender in the top left corner of the 18 yard box before placing a beautifully struck ball to the far upper-90.

In the 39th minute, Elizabeth Carlson scored her second of the year when she headed home a 35-yard cross from defender Krista Capelli.

Fiore's first of two tallies came in the 41st minute on a feed from Vogan.In an almost identical play with roles reversed, Fiore and Vogan played a give and go and Fiore's 22 yard strike struck the top of the crossbar and bounced just over the line for the goal.

Less than two minutes later Fiore bent in a corner kick from the left side, beating the goalkeeper and defenders with a ball aided by the wind to the near post.

Marywood had 29 shots in the game, 17 of which were on goal.Mackenzie Paugh made 12 saves for the Highlanders, while Marywood's Emily Osborne and Victoria Pezdirtz made one save apiece as both played 45 minutes.Pezdirtz preserved the shutout with a brilliant save in the 87th minute, making a diving save to her left to deflect a shot from a breakaway.

Marywood returns to action Tuesday when ithosts Immaculata University at 4:00 pm.
