Center Valley, PA – Marywood University volleyball upset host DeSales University in five sets Saturday at the Bulldog Rumble in Center Valley. The Pacers split the day after succumbing to Susquehanna University in three sets. Marywood stays above .500 with an 11-9 overall mark. DeSales sits at 20-10, and Susquehanna remains 27-6.

Marywood defeated the Bulldogs by scores of 25-17, 9-25, 25-19, 19-25, 15-11.  The Crusaders downed the Pacers by scores of 25-16, 25-20, 25-13.

Ashley Zalewski was named to the All-Tournament team. Zalewski produced 22 kills on 44 attempts against the Bulldogs – her two errors gave her a .455 attack percentage. She blocked six shots in the win. Zalewski had 11 kills and two blocks against the Crusaders.

In the match against DeSales, Mikayla Bristol had 10 kills. In addition to her nine kills, Amy Kester recorded 14 digs and five blocks. Kelly Chadwick contributed 44 assists.


The Pacers spread the wealth around defensively with four players in double digits for digs. Shayna Finn picked up the pace with 16 digs. Bristol dug 15 balls, and Amanda Khozouri tabbed 13.

Marywood outblocked DeSales 11-8. It marked just the second five-set match of the year for Marywood. It previously downed New Jersey City University 3-2 at the Catholic University of America quad meet.

Against Susquehanna, Chadwick chimed in with 15 helpers and 10 digs. Finn produced 15 digs, and Kester scratched out 10 digs. Kathleen Reilly blocked five shots – three solo, two assisted.

Joining Zalewski on the All-Tournament team were DeSales' Amanda Wallitsch, SUNY Canton's Morgan Bills and Susquehanna's Morgan Whiteman. The Crusaders' Marykate Sherkness was named the MVP despite playing just one set against the Pacers.

Marywood travels to Centenary College Monday at 7:00 pm. It finishes its regular season Wednesday at Cairn University to decide the third seed.
