Lancaster, PA - Marywood University's late rally fell short as the Pacers dropped their season opener to a tough Elizabethtown College squad, 62-56.  Alexa Gerchman had a team-high 15 points and Danielle Terranella added 13, but Marywood could not slow down the Blue Jay's Taylor Alwine, who had a game-high 30, in the loss.  Marywood will take on host Franklin and Marshall College Sunday at 5:30 pm in the Diplomat's Terry Greene Tip-Off Classic consolation game.

Marywood trailed by 10 at the half, 31-21, but slowly chipped away at E-town's lead.  But each time the Pacers got close, Alwine was there to extend the Blue Jay's lead.  Coming down to the wire, Marywood's 59.1% (13 of 22) shooting on the free throw line cost the Pacers.

Alwine finished the game 11-for-15 from the floor and a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe.

Marywood got to within four, 54-50, with 3:31 remaining on a Ashley Murray layup, which Alwine countered at the other end with a pair of freebies, and to within three (56-53) on a traditional three-point play from Gerchman.

Gerchman then connected on another layup and freethrow to make it 58-56 with 0:16 to go, but four straight free throws from the Blue Jays as Marywood fouled trying to force turnovers iced the game.

Franklin and Marshall fell to Hood College in the opening game, 68-54.
