Immaculata, PA - Mamado Diakite's layup with 30 seconds to go gave host Immaculata University a 61-60 win over visiting Marywood University in Monday evening's CSAC opener for both teams.  Marywood fell to 2-1 (0-1 CSAC) while the Mighty Macs improved to 1-3 (1-0 CSAC). Cameron Dean was the lone Pacer in double figures with 12 points while Immaculata had four players in double digits.

Immaculata was carried by their three-point shooting in this one as they were 12-for-27 from beyond the arc, which is tied for the second most made three point field goals in team history.

Trailing 60-59 with just under a minute to go after a jumper by Marywood's Michael Rotell, Diakite collected an offensive rebound off a missed three from Joshua Smith and later put home a lay-up to give the Mighty Macs a 61-60 lead.  Diakite's lay-up would prove to be the game-winner as the IU defense held on for the final two chances for the Pacers.

After leading 37-27 coming out of halftime, the Mighty Macs were outscored 17-6 in the first 9:22 of the second half as they surrendered the lead for the first time since early in the game.  This lead change was the first of eight between the two teams in the final 10:38 of play.

Immaculata would jump back on top by two with a three-pointer by Roy Ferrell Jr. to give IU the 46-44 lead with 10:04 to go.  The Mighty Macs would swell the lead up to four, but back-to-back buckets by Marywood's Dean and Jonathan Velazquez tied the game 50-50.

A three by Rodney Duncan would put IU back in front, but five straight points capped by a three from Alex Barr gave Marywood a 55-53 lead with just over five minutes to play.  Matt Simon would pour in two more three pointers down the stretch to put Immaculata up by two at 59-57 with 2:41 to go, but the Pacers would score the next three points to take a 60-59 lead before Diakite's heroics.

The Mighty Macs were able to race out to their 10-point halftime lead on the strength of seven three point field goals.

Marywood will host Penn State Worthington Scranton Sunday at 3:00 pm in the Insalaco Arena.
