Matt Hull's Goal Sends Pacers to CSAC Men's Soccer Final

Scranton, PA – A quick strike in the third minute sufficed as Marywood University advanced to the championship game with a 1-0 victory over Cabrini College Thursday in a tightly-contested Colonial States Athletic Conference semifinal match. The second-seeded Pacers advance to face No. 1 Neumann Saturday in Aston.

It marks the fourth time in the past five years Marywood  (10-4-3) advanced to the championship. The Pacers are looking for their first conference banner and first subsequent trip the NCAA tournament.

In a blink of the eye, the Pacers went on top 2:56 into the match. A Cabrini (12-7) defender attempted to clear a ball that pinballed around the box. Matthew Hull snagged the clear just outside of the 18 and one-timed it just inside the right post for his fourth goal of the year.

Marywood held Cabrini to just four shots on goal over the remaining 87 minutes. The Cavaliers' best chance came in the 18th minute. Channing Shiffert released a shot that was stopped by Justin Sunseri. With 27 seconds remaining in the game, Quinn Ackerman produced a shot on net that was stopped by Sunseri. The Marywood keeper finished with four saves.

Opponents are scoreless against the Pacer defense over the past 331 minutes.

Neumann's 4-1 victory over Centenary in the other semifinal elucidated the CSAC championship picture prior to opening touch. The Knights supplied the Pacers their last loss, a 3-1 defeat, on Oct. 7. Marywood is currently on a seven-game win streak.

Both teams were tied in shots (13) and saves (four). Cabrini owned a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
