Volleyball Comes Short in CSAC Semis

Aston, PA – Second-seeded Neumann University eliminated No. 3 seed Marywood University from the Colonial States Athletic Conference volleyball playoffs Thursday with a four-set semifinal victory. The Pacers fell by scores of 25-18, 20-25, 25-23, 25-20.

Neumann (22-11) will face Cabrini College Saturday in a battle of the conference's top two teams. It marks the first time since the 2011 CSAC semifinals that the Pacers took a set from the Knights.

Marywood (14-10) was led by Ashley Zalewski's 20 kills. Zalewski made six errors in 48 attempts for a .292 attack percentage. Catherine Anlas and Mikayla Bristol registered eight kills. Both Anlas and Kathleen Reilly made one error in 26 and 36 shots, respectively.

Kelly Chadwick provided 39 assists and 15 digs. Neumann's receiving game was on par with Marywood tallying just two service aces.

Defensively, the Pacers flourished against the hard-hitting Knights squad. Shayna Finn garnered 26 digs, and Amy Kester picked up 21 digs.

Marywood outshined the Knights in attacks with a 49-46 advantage in kills. Neumann took the cake with an 8-2 advantage in aces and 7-2 cushion in blocks.

The Pacers' playoff hopes now flip a page to the ECAC Tournament. Marywood will find out their postseason future on Monday, Nov. 10.

Anna Waltz led the Knights with 14 kills, and Kelsey D'Imperio reached double figures with 13 kills. Kat Wolf produced 38 assists. Elaina Shooster sported a game-high four aces. Julia Malseed (22) and Waltz (20) both enjoyed 20-plus dig efforts. D'Imperio menaced the Pacers at the net with seven blocks.
