Pacers Break Out in Second Half to Down Misericordia

Dallas Twp., PA - Marywood University capped the calendar year with a 63-47 victory Saturday over local rival Misericordia University in non-conference women's basketball action. The Pacers outscored the Cougars 38-21 over the final 17 minutes of the game to end a two-game losing streak and even their record to 4-4.

Danielle Terranella scored a season-high 23 points. Terranella hit 8-of-11 field goals and went 7-for-8 from the free-throw line.

Maggie Presnal posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds to go with three blocks. Alexa Gerchman supplied seven assists and six rebounds.

The Cougars jumped out to an early advantage, getting out to a seven-point lead, following a 9-2 run midway through the first half. Marywood quickly responded with a seven-point run of its own, tying the game at 17-17 at the 5:37 mark.

Presnal hit a jumper in the paint, and Tara Steakin hit a field goal to give Marywood a four-point lead. Misericordia cut it to two with a Justine Seely layup. Both teams went scoreless for the final 100 seconds, and Marywood walked into the locker room with a two-point .

Misericordia briefly held the lead in the second half when Shannon Croasdale hit a 3-pointer for a 27-26 Cougar lead. The lead lasted all but 17 seconds before Terranella totaled four straight points. Gerchman connected on a layup in the paint to lift the lead to five points with 15:21 left. Seely put the Cougars within a possession again but Terranella was too difficult to contain down low. At the other end, Catie Nealon stole the ball and swooshed a long ball for an eight-point Pacers' lead. Nealon drained another three to extend the lead to double digits with 10:58 remaining.

A six-point run by the Cougars, capped by another big Seely shot, made it a two-possession game (48-44). Marywood kept Misericordia cold the rest of the way; the Cougars failed to score a field goal for the remaining 6:13. Maddie Lavery hit two shots on the next three Pacer scoring possession.

Marywood cashed in at the free-thrown line, going 14 for 16 for a 87.5 percent performance. After yielding just a 32.1 percent mark in the first half, the Pacers made 60.9 percent of their shots in the second half to finish the game with a 45.1 percent mark. Marywood outrebounded the Cougars 43-33 and stymied Misericordia to a 31.3 percent from the field.

Both teams turned the ball over a combined 31 times. The Pacers committed 18 turnovers to the Cougars' 13.

Misericordia remains winless on the year following its 10th loss. The Cougars have faced a difficult schedule; their opponents entered this week with a combined .730 winning percentage.

Marywood does not return to the court until after the new year when it hosts King's College Jan. 3 at the Sleep Inn Holiday Classic. The Pacers take on Mount Saint Aloysius College Jan. 4 in the second game of the Classic.
